Pediatric-Dentistry-Irving-TXPediatric dentistry is a specialty of dental care that focuses on the unique oral health needs of infants and children. Our dentists hold additional training and education to diagnose and treat oral health conditions. At Robert E. Morgan, DDS, and Associates, our team of dental assistants, dental hygienists, and pediatric dentists treat patients from infancy up to their late teenage years. We provide preventive dental services along with restorations and oral health education.

Ideally, children should first visit a dentist near their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. This first appointment will consist of a short, gentle examination where one of our dentists will examine your child’s mouth and look for any signs of abnormalities of a congenital or developmental nature. The first appointment is a great opportunity for parents to get to know our team and for our team to learn more about you and your child.

By the time your child reaches four or five, he or she should receive a dental cleaning. A dental cleaning is a non-invasive treatment that removes tartar, which cannot be removed with brushing or flossing alone. Professional cleanings should be scheduled every six months to help maintain a clean, healthy mouth.

Since cavities are common among children, many services provided at our practice are preventative in nature. In conjunction with cleanings and checkups, our dentists may prescribe fluoride treatments or place dental sealants to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at our office in the form a flavored gel or foam. As a naturally occurring mineral, fluoride is scientifically proven to strengthen the protective barrier around teeth called tooth enamel. Strong tooth enamel is the best defense against tooth decay. Another preventative service involves placing a temporary dental sealant along the biting surfaces of the back teeth. Painted on in a liquid form and hardened with a special light, dental sealants fill in the difficult-to-clean pits and grooves along molars where cavities are prone to form.
